
Principal Investigator for Reducing Children's
Exposure to Tobacco Smoke Pollution
Deborah Hennrikus, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health at the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota. She received her Doctorate in Behavioral Science in Relation to Medicine from the University of Newcastle in Australia. Her primary interests lie in smoking cessation and decreasing environmental tobacco smoke exposure. Dr Hennrikus was a principal investigator for the Transdisciplinary Tobacco Use Research Center (TTURC) at the University of Minnesota, conducting research in harm reduction in relation to tobacco exposure among mothers and their children. Her current studies examine the use of social support for cessation in low-income pregnant smokers and intensive smoking cessation interventions for peripheral artery disease patients.
Dr. Hennrikus routinely conducts trainings in smoking cessation methods for health care professionals as part of the TTURC Community Outreach Core program. As a faculty member in the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health, she teaches courses in Community Health Education in Health Care Settings and Applied Research Methods.
